Our orginal plan was to take the 11:37 train to Venezia, but muffy had still wanted to look at handbags and there were these Swarowski rings that we really wanted. The Swarowski shop was just about 2 minutes from the Hotel so we strolled down and were immediately drawn in by the beautiful crystals. Muffy and I got matching right hand rings and promised that we would be true to ourselves and our hearts. We snaked the streets look for handbags and came across a huge square with tons of them. Muffy found this beautiful camel colored bag identical to the one Aubrey had gotten 2 days earlier. Their bags were expertly crafted with the softest leather. Mom and Vig bought a few more souveniers and before we knew it we had to get our bags and get to the train station.
We knew there was a 12:37 train that could get us to Venice before 3 but it was exactly 12:35 by the time we got there and didnt feel like rushing. So we waited in line and could only get on the 3:37 train. With nothing to do and all our luggage we stayed at the train station - got lunch and drank wine for the next 2 1/2 hours. It was so perfect and relaxing. We boarded the trains a little earlier (ps this was the NICEST train I had ever been on period!) and departed for our next destination.
Vig taught Mom how to play Casino Royale and next to them we two older sisters playing cards. Muffy and I saw in them what we would be in 40 years. They were exactly like us - Muffy the comedic heckler and Me the one concentrating on the game! We laughed with them the entire train ride and it was night by the time we got to Venice.
Venice is incredible. An entire city seperated by waters - but so romantic and peaceful. It took us a while to figure out how exactly anyone gets around here. Water taxi's rule the city - so we all boarded up and took our boat to each dock. Unfortunately we got out one stop before the Rialto Bridge at the Rialto Market and had to walk and literally do relays races taking the luggage over the bridge to the correct side. We checked into the hotel and were beyond relieved that the bellhops would take the luggage up to the room. 600 lbs of crap over a bridge was enough for us.
Exhausted and hungry we ventured out for dinner. I was craving seafood from being so close to the water and we stumbled upon a great little trattoria that had a great mix of everything. Muffy got salmon, I got boiled seafood, mom got a calzone, aubs a soup, kar some tort, and Vig pasta with salmon. We feasted drank a ton of wine and had the best dinner yet. I think we just started feeling like one giant family and shared stories from when we were all kids. It was so much fun to think back to those hilarious times and also see how far we have come since them.
Our first night in Venice and oh what a memorable one.
